I moved to a different nation. We have many disparities in Pakistan, for example, most students do not follow the timetable. We also don’t have much technology. In addition, while I’m in my own country, I am reliant on others. Now that I’ve relocated to Canada, I’ve noticed several changes in my life. The way of life in Canada differs from that of my own country.
For example, in Canada people are very punctual and they use a lot of technology in their daily lives. I have also noticed that people here are very independent. They do not rely on others as much as we do in my own country.
These changes have been a great experience for me and I am enjoying learning about the different culture here in Canada. I am also finding it easier to be independent and manage my own time. I am grateful for the opportunity to live in such a beautiful country and to learn more about the world around me.
The majority of my work is done in Canada. The teachers will give you a large number of tasks and projects, as well as internship opportunities. However, in Pakistan, the bulk of the job is based on paper work. For example, the teacher won’t just give you some extra reading homework. In comparison to my own country, I am more active in Canada. As a result, my life changed in three areas: educational, personal, and cultural.
The first way is educational. When I was in Pakistan, I was not allowed to choose my own subjects. My parents and teachers had chosen them for me. However, when I came to Canada, I had the freedom to choose any subjects that I wanted to study. For example, I am interested in business courses because I want to be a business woman in the future.
So, I took some business courses such as economics, marketing, and accounting. On the other hand, if I were still living in Pakistan, maybe I would have been forced to take medical or engineering courses by my parents because they think these occupations are suitable for girls. Life would have been much harder for me if that had happened.
The second way is personal. In Pakistan, I had to wear a uniform to school every day and my hair had to be tied up. I was not allowed to wear any makeup or jewellery. However, in Canada, I can wear whatever I want as long as it is appropriate for school. For example, I can wear jeans and a t-shirt to school. And I am allowed to wear some makeup and jewellery such as earrings and a necklace. This change has made me feel more confident because I can express myself more through the way I dress.
The third way is cultural. In Pakistan, the food is very different from the food in Canada. For example, in Pakistan we eat a lot of spicy food. However, in Canada the food is not as spicy. This was a big change for me because I had to get used to eating food that was not as spicy. In addition, in Pakistan we eat with our hands. But in Canada, people use forks and knives. So, I had to learn how to use utensils when I came here.
All of these changes have made my life more interesting and exciting. I am grateful for all of the opportunities that I have been given here in Canada.
What has happened to me in Canada as a result of this development? My Pakistani education is considerably different from what it is in Canada. According to Culture shock (n.d),, for example, while moving to a new country, an individual may appreciate his teaching approach. In Pakistan, teachers deliver their lectures on a white board instead of utilizing the projector and document camera. However, Canadian instructors use a projector and not the document camera to present their lessons.
That is the big difference in my education system. Life in Canada is completely different from Pakistan. The people, the culture, the food, and everything else is so different. It’s been a bit of an adjustment for me, but I’m slowly getting used to it. I’m still trying to find my place here and figure out what I want to do with my life, but I’m enjoying the journey. Who knows where I’ll end up? But for now, I’m just happy to be here and experiencing all that Canada has to offer.
Pakistan does not encourage internships or concentrate on your talents and initiatives, as the country’s national motto claims. In Canada, however, the most of the work is practical. The instructor will provide you with a lot of homework, quizzes, and projects, similar to (exam, report writing, research projects etc.). In Pakistan, I do not keep to a timetable. I never arrive on time for class. However in Canada I follow a schedule and am at school ten minutes before class begins. If I don’t adhere to the timings , I won’t be able to meet your objectives.
Life in Canada is more disciplined than Pakistan. In addition, the teaching methods are different. In Pakistani universities, the teachers usually lecture and the students take notes. But here, in Canadian universities, the teachers use various teaching methods such as group work, case studies, discussions, etc. So, the students are actively involved in learning. I think this is a better way to learn because when you are actively involved in something, you learn more.
The lifestyle of people in Pakistan and Canada is also different. In Pakistan, people live in joint families and they are closely connected to their extended families. However, in Canada, people live in nuclear families and they are not as close to their extended families. In addition, people in Canada are more independent and they take responsibility for their own lives.
Overall, I think life in Canada is better than life in Pakistan because it is more organized and disciplined. The teaching methods are better and the lifestyle is also better. I am enjoying my life here in Canada and I am learning a lot of new things.
