“Divergent” by Veronica Roth continues the story of a Divergent society where people are separated into factions according to their personality types. Beatrice Prior is a Divergent who does not fit into any one faction. When she discovers the truth about her society, she must choose between staying in her current faction or joining a new one. “Divergent” is the first book in the Divergent trilogy.
In Veronica Roth’s Divergent, she delivers a positive message with adventure and some romance. She claims that everyone is unique, so you don’t have to be scared to be yourself. Through a sequence of events, Beatrice Prior and Tobias Eaton (known as Four) understand this.
They save each other multiple times and begin to fall in love with each other. I think that this book is worth reading because it has an important message and the characters are relatable. The book Divergent is a story about being different and staying true to yourself no matter what the consequences might be. Roth does an amazing job at making the readers feel like they are part of the book.

Beatrice’s mother and grandmother were getting ready for the stimulation assessment to determine Beatrice’s faction. They were in their basic home right before the stimulation tests were scheduled to begin. Her mother cut her hair into an Abnegation style. They are not permitted to view mirrors because they consider it a sign of selfishness.
Abnegation people are selfless people. They act differently than Divergent people who are more aggressive and don’t necessarily think about others. Divergent people are dangerous to society because they can’t be controlled. The government doesn’t want anyone to be Divergent because they’re a threat to the system. It’s better for everyone if everyone is the same. That way, there’s no dissent and no one gets hurt.
Beatrice’s mother told her that she needed to try hard to get into Abnegation because that’s where she belonged. Beatrice wasn’t sure if she wanted to be in Abnegation or not. She didn’t know if she could handle living a life of selflessness. She was scared that she wouldn’t be able to control herself and would end up hurting someone.
When the time came for the stimulation test, Beatrice was nervous but excited. She put on the headset and started the test. The first few questions were easy but then they started to get harder. She got a question wrong and her mother told her to try harder. The next question was about a man who was drowning. Beatrice had to choose between saving the man or her own life. she chose to save the man even though it meant sacrificing her own life.
After she made her choice, she woke up in a different room. A woman was there and she told Beatrice that she was Divergent. Divergent people are dangerous and need to be killed. Beatrice was scared and didn’t know what to do. She was Divergent and there was no way to change that.
She would have to live with the knowledge that she was different and that she was a threat to society. Divergent people are not accepted in society and they are not allowed to live normal lives. Beatrice would have to keep her Divergence a secret if she wanted to stay alive.
Beatrice had never imagined she belonged to the Abnegation way of life because she always felt a little selfish. The author crafts a heavy tone that makes you feel what Beatrice is feeling about the upheaval. She was nervous and had no idea what to anticipate, so she experienced a modicum of dread as well.
Divergent is a book about a world that is separated into five factions. Each faction has a different way of life and each one values something different. Abnegation values selflessness, Candor values honesty, Amity values peace, Erudite values intelligence, and Dauntless values bravery. The book Divergent is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the government controls everything and they use these five factions to keep people in line.
Beatrice was born into the Abnegation faction but she doesn’t feel like she belongs there. She feels like she belongs in the Dauntless faction because they value bravery and she is very brave. When she takes the aptitude test to find out which faction she belongs in, she is told that she is Divergent. Divergent means that she is not just one thing, she is a little bit of all five factions.
This makes her a threat to the government because they can’t control her. They try to kill her but she escapes and joins the Dauntless faction. She changes her name to Tris and starts a new life. Tris is brave and selfless and intelligent and honest and peace-loving. She is everything that the government is afraid of. Divergent is a book about bravery, self-acceptance, and being true to yourself.
The Erudites are trying to control everyone and become enraged when they don’t get their way. Because they think differently and aren’t easily managed, divergent people interfere with the Erudite’s strategy. Jeanine does everything she can to regain power over the Divergent.
When Tris goes under the stimulation to try to figure out her faction she belongs to, she shows the characteristics of not one but three factions.
Divergent people are dangerous because they can’t be controlled and the Erudite want to control everyone.
When Divergent people start to realize they can’t be controlled, they become a threat to the Erudite. Jeanine is worried that if the Divergent people find out about her plans, she will lose control.
