My destination was a box in the city that was extremely destitute, and our school had no funds. I didn’t think I’d be able to get into college or even leave state at the time. My tenth-grade English teacher created a group that she would take on excursions to various colleges, help with our essays, and provide SAT preparation time as well as keep track of us all so we could stay on track. She indirectly assisted in empowering us by providing us the tools without being able to empower us herself.
