How to being a successful student? It’s a question that many people ask, but the answer isn’t always clear. However, there are certain psychological factors that can help students be more successful in their studies.

Throughout my reading of Lake and von Baeyer’s essay, “How to be a Successful Student,” I noted many similarities between myself and the successful student. To achieve your full potential as a capable student, you must have portions of each of these traits. In order to reach your objectives, you must combine both goals and action.

Here are some tips on how to be a successful student, compiled from the article. Be goal-oriented: have your goals set and know what you need to do in order to achieve them. A big part of being goal-oriented is staying on top of your work and not procrastinating. Once you have set your goals, make sure to keep track of your progress and celebrate each accomplishment along the way.

Be active in participation: take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Get involved in class, participate in discussions, and ask questions when you don’t understand something. Showing that you are engaged will not only help you learn the material better, but it will also make a good impression on your professor.

This is one of my key characteristics. I have discovered that I read and study all materials on a regular basis, but until I sit down with my classmates to discuss it, I do not believe I have truly ingested the knowledge.

I need to discuss what I have read in order to learn it. This is another one of my strengths. I have always been a planner and tend to work on things well ahead of time. This allows me to be less stressed about deadlines and results in a better finished product.

Finally, “successful students take good notes during lectures and review them soon afterwards.” (Lake, A. & von Baeyer, C., 2005) This is something that I need to work on. I often find myself getting distracted during lectures and not taking good notes. As a result, I have to spend more time later reviewing the material.

Overall, I believe that these three suggestions from the author are important for success in school. However, each student has different strengths and weaknesses. It is important to identify your own individual strengths and weaknesses in order to be a successful student.

Students who succeed get involved in their learning, accept responsibility for their own education, and are active participants in it! The difference between being led and leading is responsibility. Active classroom participation does not need more time studying.

Successful students also develop good study habits. They break big projects into smaller goals, and they make sure to schedule enough time to complete those goals. Good study habits also include regular review of class notes and taking practice quizzes.

And finally, successful students take care of themselves! Eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly are all important for maintaining focus and energy levels in school.
