Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. The play Romeo and Juliet is about two star-crossed lovers who are from different families, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, where their death was caused by the ongoing feud between the two families.
Romeo and Juliet’s deaths were mostly Romeo’s fault because he killed Tybalt, which resulted in Romeo being banished from Verona. If Romeo did not kill Tybalt, then he would not have been banished and Romeo and Juliet would have had a happy ending.
Another reason why Romeo is responsible for their deaths is because he married Juliet without her father’s permission, which made her father very angry. If Romeo had asked for Juliet’s father’s permission to marry her, then they would have been able to be together and their deaths would have been prevented. Romeo is also responsible for their deaths because he took the poison without thinking about Juliet and how she would feel if he died.
Romeo should have thought about Juliet and her feelings before he took the poison. If Romeo had not taken the poison, then Juliet would have not killed herself and they both would have still been alive. Therefore, Romeo is responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet.
In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the prologue informs us that both Romeo and Juliet will die in the course of the play. The audience is left wondering who was to blame for their deaths. This paper will identify those who are responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet. Because of its message, young people all over the world continue to tell this tale.
Romeo and Juliet meet at a party and Romeo instantly falls in love with Juliet. Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet, which are two families that have been enemies for many years. Romeo gets banished from Verona because he killed Tybalt, who killed Romeo’s friend Mercutio. Romeo believes that he needs to be with Juliet so he drinks poison and dies next to her. Juliet finds Romeo’s corpse beside her and stabs herself with his dagger.
Some people may say that Romeo is responsible for his own death as well as Juliet’s. Romeo was the one who decided to go to the party even though he knew his family did not want him too. Romeo was also the one who killed Tybalt. If Romeo had not done those things, he would not have been banished and Juliet would not have killed herself. While Romeo may be responsible for his own death, he is not responsible for Juliet’s.
Others may say that Juliet is responsible for her own death as well as Romeo’s. Juliet was the one who decided to marry Romeo even though she knew her family did not want her too. Juliet was also the one who stabs herself with Romeo’s dagger. If Juliet had not done those things, she would not have killed herself. While Juliet may be responsible for her own death, she is not responsible for Romeo’s.
The person who is most responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Romeo’s father, Lord Montague. If Lord Montague had not started the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues, Romeo and Juliet would have never met. Romeo and Juliet would not have fallen in love and they would not have died. While Romeo and Juliet may be responsible for their own deaths, it is clear that Lord Montague is the most responsible for their deaths.
Since he did something to marry them and bring them together after Romeo’s banishment when he knew it was wrong, Friar Lawrence should be held responsible for their death. Friar Lawrence should be held accountable for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. One reason Frair Lawrence could be held responsible is that he married them against his orders.
Romeo was banished and if anyone found out that Romeo and Juliet were married they could be killed. Romeo was also married to Rosaline at the time so that means Friar Lawrence committed bigamy.
Another reason is that he gave Juliet the poison “to sleep a thousand deaths” (5.3.179) without telling her it was poison, he just told her to take it when she woke up and she would be reunited with Romeo. If Romeo did not find Juliet dead he would have thought she betrayed him. This would lead to Romeo killing himself which he did.
While Romeo and Juliet are responsible for their own deaths, as they are the ones who took their own lives, Friar Lawrence played a role in their deaths and should therefore be held at least partially responsible. If Friar Lawrence had not married Romeo and Juliet, or had not given Juliet the poison, Romeo and Juliet might still be alive. As such, Friar Lawrence bears some responsibility for their deaths.
Friar Lawrence went against the rules of the church and his family to wed them and bring them together after Romeo’s banishment. They would never have murdered themselves if Friar Lawrence had never married them or made a plan to bring them together. When Friar Lawrence’s scheme failed, Romeo went to the tomb in order to discover whether she was really dead, thinking she was dead when he hit her with the Apothecary’s poison.
Romeo’s death is on Friar Lawrence for giving Romeo the poison and getting him exiled in the first place. Juliet’s death is on Romeo for killing himself and leaving Juliet all alone. Romeo and Juliet’s deaths are on their own parents for constantly fighting and not allowing them to be with each other. Lastly, Romeo and Juliet’s deaths could be on fate because everything just seems to go wrong for the two lovers.
